Anamudi Shola National Park



Anamudi National Park, KeralaAnamudi Shola National Park is a protected area that is composed of Mannavan shola, Idivara shola and Pullardi shoal. It covers a total area of around 7.5 kmý. It is administered by the Kerala Department of Forests and Wildlife, Munnar Wildlife Division.

The elevation of the park ranges from 2,152 meters - 2,305 meters. This park receives lot of rainfall with annual average rainfall of about 4,500 millimeters. It provides valuable wildlife habitat connectivity between Mathikettan Shola National Park, Eravikulam National Park, Pambadum Shola National Park, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary and the Kurinjimala Sanctuary. This park also forms part of the Anamalai sub-cluster.

Anamudi National Park was declared a protected area by the draft notification released on Nov 21, 2003.The national park is a home for large number of faunal and floral varieties.Tourists can also visit Pambadum Shola National park which falls very near to the Anamudi Shola National Park.

The Anamudi Shola National Park.are home to rare and magnificent wild life like the wild Elephant, Tiger, Panther, Indian Bison and Nilgiri tahr etc.Apart from this the wildlife population of National Park includes Gaur, Spotted Deer, Sambar, the endangered Giant Grizzled Squirrel, Hanuman Langur,Sloth Bear, Flying Squirrels, jungle cat, wild boar, a variety of monkey species, Leopards, Wolves, Wild Dogs, Civet Cats etc. There are 62 species of trees, 174 species of herbs and shrubs and 39 species of climbers are spotted from here.

Among fauna categories include 100 species of butterflies , 232 species of moths and 76 species of birds are found here.Tourists to the national park will find a number of attractive locations in the national park.Thoovanan waterfall is one such example which is very impressive.

Flora: Anamudi Shola National Park contains 62 species of trees, 174 species of herbs and shrubs and 39 species of climbers. This Park is one of the largest Shola forest ecosystems in the country.

How to Reach:

By Train:The nearest railway station is at Aluva Railway Station located about 150 km and Pollachi Railway Station is about 100 km from the national park.

By Bus: Munnar Bus Stand is the nearest bus stand which all major cities are connected through road.Marayoor Bus station is about 40km away.

By Airport: Kochi International Airport is the nearest airport located about 160km and Coimbatore Airport is located about 150km from the national park.
