Athirapally and Vazhachal waterfalls

Athirapally and Vazhachalwaterfalls are located in Thrissur district of the Kerala state. These two famous waterfalls are on the edge of Sholayar forest ranges is at a height of 1000 feet from the sea level. It’s a perfect tourist location for all the time.This is the only place in the Western Ghats where four endangered Hornbill species are seen. Athirappally and Vazhachal are just 5km apart. These two waterfalls are a part of the Chalakkudyriver. Athirappally is turbulent and enraged, but Vazhachal is charm and cool.

Most exciting feature about the Athirappalli waterfall is the height from it is falling. Combined with the greenery, it infuses freshness into any tired soul.  The Athirapally Falls join the Chalakkudy River after a drop of 80 feet.The Chalakkudyriver near to these water fall is well famous for its biodiversity. Just a short drive from Athirapally, the Vazhachal waterfall is close to dense green forests that are home to many endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna.There is around 85 species of fresh water fishes in this river. Out of this 85 species 35 species are endemic to the Western Ghat and 9 are endangered.
The Vazhachal waterfall is a scenic and popular waterfall on the edge of the Sholayar forest range in Kerala. The Vazhachal is part of the Chalakkudy River. It’s cool, misty waters cascading down with the backdrop of thick green forest and rocky terrain are a scintillating experience for visitors. The best season to visit is October to March. Athirappalli is about 63 km from Thrissur and Vazhachal about 68 km. Several luxurious resorts and homestays are also arranged for the tourists.
